Happiness or Success?

Happiness or success? Why is it that so often we must make this choice? From my first meetings with high school guidance counselors I was told if I was to be successful I should choose from certain career paths because I was adept at them. The issue was that although I was adept at them they did not truly make me happy. So what does a teenager or young adult do? In my case I choose to follow the responsible path. To do what I was told was the correct path to be successful. What I discovered was that as hard as I worked I never seemed to have the passion that my successful friends seemed to revel in. I have always been told that “a lack of action” is the primary missing ingredient. It is the reason more people don’t achieve the level of success that they dream about. That answer is not quite correct though. The true reason is “a lack of meaningful action”. Action alone will not get you where you want to go. The action must lead you in the desired direction.

So a plan with out action will not get us to our goal. We can hop in the car and drive up and down streets all day long and chances are that you will never arrive at your destination. So action without a plan is also extremely unlikely to get us to our goals. However, the person who sets his destination , uses a map for guidance and then gets in the car and drives is very likely to arrive. So a goal plus planned or meaningful action leads us to our destination. Continue reading
